Dialogue Cleanup
This is an excerpt from a video shot on location in a large warehouse facility. There is some distortion due to clipping, wall reflections (reverb), faint music and other background noise. The talent was not available to re-record the dialog in a studio so we corrected the clipping issues, minimized the reverb and background noise, then applied some compression and EQ to enhance clarity.

This example is an excerpt from an amateur video made in 1982 of an interview with a WWII veteran who witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor. At the very beginning there is tapping on the camera microphone. There is a lot of general noise then some nasty crackle at the end that begins just as he ends the word “Arizona”. Multiple and extensive noise reduction/editing techniques were needed to clean it up. This included, De-Noise, De-Reverb, Dialogue Isolation, Detailed Spectral Repair, Ambience Matching, Gain and EQ Matching functions.

In this example a grandmother recorded stories for her grandchildren in her living room. She used an inexpensive cassette recorder sitting on the arm of her chair as she read the stories. Noise reduction, De-Ess and EQ were used to clarify the recording.

Automatic Dialogue Replacement (ADR)
This is commonly used to align voiceovers, done by different people, that must conform to timing or video sync requirements. It is also used for videos or live recordings for performances requiring overdubbing in a studio that need to be sync’d with the “live” original.
The examples below were done using three voiceover recordings all saying the exact same phrase but each with different timing, vocal inflection and energy.
This first example shows the dialog for Male and Female voiceovers not sync’d together at all.
Below is the new Female voiceover alone with timing modified to match with the Male voiceover.
This example has both voiceovers together to demonstrate the result of synching the dialog.
